Your old windows either need to be maintained, fixed, or replaced. But how can you tell when you really need to replace your old windows? Is the issue a broken window pane? Or is the paint on your window frame looking shabby? Or are you just tired of fixing your windows again and again?
Yahoo Homes gives us 4 clear signs that your windows need to be replaced.
- When you feel drafts in your home, you probably need to replace your windows. Weatherstripping might help, but it’s only a temporary solution.
- If you find it difficult to open and close your windows, you may need to replace them. Your single- or double-hung windows may have balance issues that could be a hazard to you and your family. Wooden and metal windows can rot and rust, thus making them difficult to open and shut.
- Fogging in double- and triple-paned windows is also clear sign that you need to replace them. Condensation that causes fogging indicates that your windows are no longer sealed and are allowing hot or cold air to come through your windows.
- If your electricity bill has increased significantly when compared to previous months due to heating, cooling, or even lighting, your windows may be too inefficient. New windows, especially those with Energy Star labels, may solve your problem and help you save on energy costs.
