So your window accidentally got cracked or shattered for some reason in the middle of winter? While you are waiting for a permanent repair, such as glass replacement, here are some temporary fixes you can consider to minimize the cold air coming inside your house:
Cracked glass
Seal the cracked glass using masking tape to keep the cold air out. Very gently clean both the inside and outside surfaces of the window, and then apply masking tape to the crack on both sides of the window.
Shattered glass
If your window has shattered, you must first carefully remove the broken pane to avoid further accidents. Once you have cleaned the window, you can use heavy-duty double-layered plastic, such as a trash bag, to temporarily keep the cold out. Fold the trash bag into the size you need and tape or staple it to the window pane for a temporary fix.
