It’s summer time – time to prepare for higher energy costs! No, not this summer. If you’re resourceful enough, you can find eco-friendly ways to keep those energy bills low without suffering from the heat of summer.
If you grill and cook outside your house, for example, you can help keep your kitchen, and thus your entire house, cooler. Dining in your garden, where the air is fresh, can also help you save on air-conditioning costs. Ceiling fans are also great for ventilating your house, so make sure you have them in time for summer. Planting trees in your yard that provide shade and make your environment cooler can also help bring down your indoor cooling costs this summer.
Your windows and doors can also play a part in bringing down your energy costs. Use curtains and shades on your windows, and install a storm door so you can keep your main door open for ventilation but your storm door closed for protection.
Other tips include hanging your clothes to dry outdoors rather than using your clothes dryer, regularly cleaning and maintaining your air-conditioners, and remembering to unplug your appliances when not in use.
