Choosing a door frame is as important as choosing your door. Why? Depending on the materials they are made from, door frames, just like doors, can either help block or allow heat to come in and out of your house. But most importantly, the door frame is where the hinges and locks are attached, thus making it very important in keeping your home secure.
Let’s learn about the basics of door frames.
Material. The cheapest, the easiest to install, and the most common material used for door frames is wood. Some wood frames are reinforced with a steel overlay to prevent them from cracking and weakening. Other equally durable door frame materials include uPVC, fiberglass, aluminum, and a combination of wood and resin.
Shape. Door frames for standard doors are made up of two door jambs that stand parallel to each other with a lintel at the top. For doors with a non-standard shape, the frame is designed so that a seal is formed between the frame and the door.
