Accidents do happen to kids at home, but you can’t keep your eyes on your kids all the time. You have chores to do and other things to attend to. Stories about kids falling out of windows continue to make the news, and if you are afraid this could happen to your kids, there are things you can do to avoid such accidents.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), you can childproof your windows through the following means:
- Installing window guards;
- Installing window stops;
- Keeping furniture, such as cribs, beds, and chairs away from windows; and
- Having windows that open from the top and not the bottom, as much as possible.
The CPSC also reminds parents that screens installed in windows are not a strong enough barrier to prevent kids from falling, so they are not considered enough to keep your kids safe. You can read here to learn more.
