You know there is something wrong with your door when you leave it only slightly ajar and it swings fully open. Not only is this bothersome, but it’s also inconvenient, especially when you intended to leave the door open just a bit. Believe it or not, the solution to this problem is easy and something you can do it in a few minutes.
The key is to bend the pin in the door’s upper hinge just a little bit to stop the door from swinging open (see illustrations here). To accomplish this, you simply need to remove the pin from the hinge by putting a shim between your door and door jamb and then pushing the pin out from the hinge using a hammer and nail. Once the pin is removed, hit it with a hammer, slightly bending it. Then place the pin back into the hinge and check your door. If your door still swings open, try doing the same process with the bottom hinge.
