Garage doors are just as important as the other exterior doors in your home because they are also entry points that provide access to the main part of your house. It is critical that garage doors work well to keep your home and vehicles protected.
Here are four common garage door problems and how to fix them. These solutions will help make your garage more efficient and your home safer.
- Power outage. This may not be a problem that needs fixing, but when the power is out, you cannot automatically open and shut your garage door. What you can do is find the handle, usually red in color, that hangs from the guide track, which will allow you to open and close the garage door manually.
- Stiff garage door opener. Cold weather can sometimes stiffen the mechanism of your garage door and cause a loss of power. Seasonally, check and adjust the pressure settings for lowering and raising the garage door to prevent this issue.
- Garage door sags and becomes harder to open. As garage doors age, they tend to sag. To solve this, position a tension rod at the back of the door diagonally from the top to bottom corners.
- Garage doors will not lock. Some bars that lock garage doors can shift over time. To realign these bars, loosen the guide brackets on the edges of the door so they can move. Reposition the bars so that they run and lock smoothly and then lubricate.
