You may already know that the use of energy-efficient doors and windows in your home can qualify for a federal tax credit. But while Energy Star-certified doors and windows are certainly energy savers, they may not always qualify for the tax credit.
There are at least 5 energy rating factors that affect tax credit. These include the U-factor, the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC), visible transmittance, air leakage, and condensation resistance. Each rating has a tax credit qualification requirement that must be met in order to qualify for the credit. For example, the U-factor and the SHGC should be 0.3 or less.
