Front door locks come in different types and styles that may confuse some homeowners. Mortise lock sets, for instance, are often confused with cylindrical lock sets. So what is the difference between the two?
Mortise lock sets are considered to be more secure than cylindrical lock sets because of their more substantial locking mechanism. They require a special cut on the side of the door for installation purposes, as opposed to just the two holes required for cylindrical lock sets. Mortise lock sets also require special skill, as well as special tools, during installation to make the mortise cuts more precise.
Although mortise locks are more difficult to install than cylindrical locks, the security they provide is also more reliable.
