For safety, every DIYer should consider wearing protective gear when working on various home projects. Even if you think you have a complete DIY tool kit, you may have overlooked some safety gear that you really should have.
In addition to wearing gloves to protect your hands, you also need the following gear to protect your vision, your hearing, and your lungs:
- Protective glasses. These are very important for keeping dust and other airborne particles from irritating your eyes. They also protect your eyes from accidents, especially when striking or hammering is involved.
- Hearing protection. Protecting your ears is another important thing to remember when working on projects, especially when using noisy tools and equipment. You can use earplugs, earmuffs, or an earband.
- Air respirator. If you are working on projects that involve dust or fumes, such as sanding, painting, or metal work, a good air respirator will help to remove particles from the air that could harm your lungs.
