This very traditional Williamsburg Colonial home has wooden double hung windows with extra wide colonial grilles. The windows were well maintained although the upkeep to paint each window probably takes about 4 hours each. There are a lot of windows in this house to spend so much time painting each year.
Besides the maintenance time, these windows were not energy efficient, so all the windows were replaced with the full divided light colonial grille style window in our canvas color. The brick mould was covered in the same Williamsburg green that had previously been painted.
This homeowner had thought about painting the canvas sashes with green and she has had so many compliments from neighbors about the updated look that she is going to keep the contrasting color.
Her last project will be updating the look of the door panels and transom to match the rest of the home.
