Five Steps for Applying Film to Your Glass Doors and Windows
Interested in protecting your furniture from UV damage, making your home more energy efficient, or making the windows in your home harder to see into? Although your best option is to replace your windows with our Low E-4® SmartSun™ glass, we understand that high quality replacement windows might be something you need to plan for. In the meantime, applying window films to your current windows can help out quite a bit! By adding a protective layer to your windows, you can make your home safer, more secure, and more eco-friendly.
So, what exactly do window films do? To start, a high quality window film will reduce glare and UV exposure in your home, which protects your furniture and other valuables from sun damage and warping. As an added bonus, this also reduces hot spots in your home, making it easier for your home’s HVAC system to keep every part of your home comfortable. This reduces your energy usage. If you’re mainly interested in sun protection, you can choose either clear or tinted films.
For privacy, many people choose frosted films to obscure the inside of the home from prying eyes. Frosted window films are a popular option for bathrooms and bedrooms, as well as for the windows on or around your home’s entry door. These films can come in a wide range of styles and designs, giving you the opportunity to add a little extra style!
If you’re worried about damaging your windows by applying window films, don’t be. They’re perfectly safe, and they couldn’t be easier to install on your own. Follow these simple steps to apply window film to your windows and glass doors:
- Measure the area you need to cover and cut your window film accordingly.
- Combine soap and water in an empty spray bottle.
- Spray the solution on the glass.
- Apply the film to the glass.
- Remove air bubbles using a credit card, working your way from the middle of the film to the edges.
