Slamming doors can be an annoying nuisance, especially if you are trying to relax or if you have a sleeping baby in your home. However, there are some hardware devices that you can install on your doors to avoid the disturbance that slamming inevitably brings.
- Weatherstripping. A simple weatherstripping cushion between your door and its frame can help silence a slamming door and, at the same time, help insulate your home.
- Damper and dictator. This piece of hardware is comprised of a metal hook attached to the door frame and a small wheel attached to the top of the door that work by slowing down the speed of the door. The hook catches the wheel and controls the speed of the closing door.
- Pneumatic door closer. This consists of a metal bracket attached to the door frame and a piston attached to the door. It uses air pressure to close the door in a slow, controlled manner.
- Hydraulic door closer. Usually found on doors in commercial buildings, such as schools and hospitals, this closer consists of a metal box fixed at the top of the door and a metal arm attached to the frame. It uses hydraulic pressure to control the speed of the door as it closes.
If you install one of these anti-slamming door devices, you will have more peace at home, and you may even be sparing your door and its frame from being damaged by constant, heavy slamming.
